Salmon Casting Tuition Trout Casting Tuition What Tackle? Salmon Spey casting Fly fishing for Salmon has to be the finest and most rewarding experience you can have with your fly rod! Even if no fish are caught, the surroundings and countryside are generally so idyllic and picturesque that the whole event will leave you wanting more. The best river advice and fishing experience you will get on the river you are about to fish is always going to be from local knowledge and that of your Gillie, however it is essential to arrive at the beat with the skills of the Salmon rod well practiced to ensure you have the best opportunity possible to catch this most majestic of fish. I have many regular customers who come to me year after year just for an hour or so to brush up on their Spey Casting ahead of the yearly fishing trip, but for most learning the full use of the Double Handed Salmon rod will generally necessitate a number of two to three hour sessions to cover casting techniques, fishing styles and safety. Each session will be designed specifically for you, but definitely with your ability and the location where you will be fishing very much in mind. All my instruction is carried out on the river with access to both left and right banks. A typical lesson (approx 2 / 3 hours) will accommodate the following: Left or Right bank: • Selecting and setting up of a balanced outfit (Fly rod, reel, line, flies to use and knots) • Roll Cast and its uses • Jump roll • Single Spey cast – When to use? • Double Spey cast – when to use? Follow up lessons – fishing from the alternative bank and moving onto other casts such as Snake Roll, Overhead cast, working with sinking lines, river craft and safety measures to be taken when wading. |
